Collection: Banana
Banana yarn is a beautifully soft, plant based fibre made from the discarded stems of banana plants, an agricultural by-product that would otherwise go to waste. Grown in many countries throughout Asia, India is currently the largest producer of banana fibres.
The transformation begins with decortication, where the outer layers of the banana stem are separated using a combination of mechanical and manual stripping. Chemical processing can also be used to help break down the natural gums and pectins, loosening the long, silky fibres so they can be cleaned, dried, and later hand spun.
The result is a uniquely textured soft fibre with a gentle sheen. Banana yarn is wonderfully soft, making it a versatile choice for weaving, knitting or crochet. Ideal for scarves, bags, wall hangings, and statement pieces.
