Collection: Jute
Jute is a natural vegetable fibre harvested from the stems of plants in the Corchorus family. Often called “The Golden Fibre” for its warm, silky sheen, jute is celebrated for its strength, versatility, and exceptional sustainability. It is fully biodegradable and considered one of the most environmentally friendly fibres available — from seed to end of life.
As the second most widely cultivated plant fibre after cotton, jute has long been valued for its wide range of uses. Commonly known as hessian or burlap, it’s traditionally crafted into sacking, cloth, twine, and rope. Its durable fibres are also woven into curtains, floor coverings, clothing, bags, and countless everyday textiles. Remarkably, a single hectare of jute plants can absorb more than 15 tonnes of CO₂, far exceeding many tree species.
Grown primarily in India and Bangladesh, which is responsible for around 90% of the world’s supply. Jute flourishes in warm, humid environments where it thrives naturally with minimal need for chemical intervention.
Affordable, reusable, long-lasting, and endlessly adaptable, jute remains one of the most eco-conscious fibre choices for makers, designers, and earth-minded consumers alike.
