Collection: Tussah Silk
Tussah silk yarn is spun from the cocoons of wild tussah silkworms, celebrated for producing silk in naturally rich, earthy tones. While often recognised for its beautiful golden colour, tussah silk can range from pale cream to deep, warm brown. This natural palette comes from the silkworms’ diet, the caterpillars feed on oak leaves and other tannin-rich foliage, and it’s these tannins that impart the fibre’s signature hues.
Collected from the wild after the moths have emerged, the cocoons are cleaned, carded, and spun into a yarn with a subtle matte sheen and gentle irregularities that reflect its untamed origin. Tussah silk is known for being stronger and more textured than cultivated mulberry silk, offering a wonderfully organic feel.
Durable, breathable, and softly lustrous, tussah silk drapes beautifully and takes dye exceptionally well. It blends beautifully with plant fibres and is ideal for weaving, knitting, crochet, slow stitching, and mixed-media fibre art.
Perfect for scarves, garments, wraps, embellishment, and textured art pieces, tussah silk’s natural strength and earthy elegance make it a favourite among makers seeking fibres with depth, character, and a gentler environmental impact.
Wild, renewable, and biodegradable.
